SOUL FORCE V
Founded by Henley Douglas Jr., SFV has been performing on the North Shore of Boston since 1998, creating a buzz on the music scene with the unique and soulful voice of Christina McGhie, who joined the band in September 2009.
Douglas’ early career includes stints with the Big Dig Saxophone Quartet and Skin, a Boston-based funk-rock outfit that would open for acts like the Neville Brothers and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He founded the Heavy Metal Horns, a band that reached international acclaim in the 90s, and currently fronts the Boston Horns, a funk/jazz band also featuring HMH alum Garret Savluk. Soul Force V, Henley’s latest project, brings together a wide range of musical influences and experience he’s gained in his 20-year career.
Singing, songwriting and performing have been intrinsic to Christina’s nature since she was barely old enough to speak. The Boston native began her musical career as a teenager by performing at such venues as Studio 54, Coyote Ugly, Gillette Stadium, The Wonderland Ballroom and numerous North Shore staples. Christina moved to Nashville to embark on her musical and collegiate endeavors; however, she found herself taking a 5-year hiatus from singing in order to explore other talents. Luckily, having already jammed with Henley prior to venturing South, Christina returned to Boston, reunited with the front-man and has been vibing with SFV ever since. Her influences are Aretha Franklin, Janice Joplin and Billie Holiday, among others.
Over the years Buckridge has been involved with several projects including co-founding the funk/jazz band the Boston Horns, gigs as a sideman with KD Bell, Erinn Brown, Jesse Ciamataro, Vykki Vox, Ken Clark, Headshaft, and others. He can also regularly be seen jamming on the North Shore with various BoHo side projects. His guitar style combines rhythm influences, like old school James Brown and New Orleans syncopation ala Leo Nocentelli, and lead guitar influences ranging from Kenny Burrell to Jimi Hendrix.
Squantch has toured North America and Europe with a variety of bands, including the widely acclaimed jam band Topaz, acid jazz gurus The Groove Collective, and the innovative ska ensemble David Hillyard and the Rocksteady VII. He can be heard on HBO’s Sex and the City and The Sopranos, the film Beavis and Butthead Do America, MTV’s I’ll Bet You Will and in numerous commercials. Tracks recorded for Roger Sanchez, Tortured Soul and Better Daze have become staples in dance clubs around the world. Squantch also plays trombone for the Boston Horns.
Originally from Maine, Dave Walker came onto Boston's North Shore music scene after taking a 2-year hiatus from music. Dave is a well rounded, accomplished musician, having performed professionally in both the Portland, ME and New Hampshire symphonic orchestras. Dave re-entered the North Shore scene a little over a year ago playing with The Henley Douglas Jr. Jazz Quartet. From there, he became a very busy musician, performing with local favorites like the Erinn Brown Band, The Speakeasies, and the Boston Horns.
In addition to keeping the beat for Soul Force V, John performs with a wide variety of artists including The Peter Fedele Trio, the Henley Douglas Jr. Quartet, the Sultans of Swing, Lauren Coen, The Erinn Brown Band, The Route Three Blues Trio, and Lee Harvey. He has also had the privilege of performing with many national and international artists including the Grammy nominated violin virtuoso James Buswell, John Jorgensen (of Elton John and the Helecasters), and David Brown (of Billy Joel and Paul McCartney).
